In our arena
In the arena, most riders in our lessons have one trained volunteer leading the pony and two more volunteers, one each side, walking alongside. We offer full training for leaders and those who walk alongside – the “sidewalkers”.
The morning volunteer’s shift begins with catching and bringing the ponies down from the field, grooming and tacking up the ponies, as you will have been shown how to do this in your training. On Wednesdays and Fridays the lessons start at 10.00 am and finish at 3.00 pm. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we begin at 10.00 am and run through to afterschool club, which finishes at 6pm. Most of our volunteers decide to partake in a morning, afternoon or after-school shift. You can help out for more than one shift if you like! There is an hour lunch break.
You do not need to be an athlete but you do need to be able to stand and walk, with perhaps a couple of minutes jogging, for maybe 3 hours. It is a good way of being active and improving fitness!
